What is the Circadian Rhythm for the Nobi Lamp ?

What is a circadian rhythm in general?

  • Circadian rhythm refers to the internal biological process that regulates various physical, mental, and behavioural changes in our body.
  • This internal “body clock” has a 24-hour cycle.
  • It helps us to maintain a regular sleep-wake cycle, hunger and thirst cycles.
  • Influences physiological processes such as: body temperature, hormone production, and metabolism.
  • Our circadian rhythm is largely influenced by environmental cues such as light and darkness.
  • Can be disrupted by factors like shift work, jet lag, and certain medical conditions.

The Circadian Rhythm in the Nobi lamp:

  • Nobi follows the cycle of natural daylight: using variations in light intensity and color temperature.
  • The light intensity increases gradually as the morning progresses.
  • Around noon, when the sun reaches it’s zenith, the light intensity is at its brightest.
  • The light intensity decreases gradually as the afternoon progresses to the evening.
  • This can provide assistance to the internal body clock of people who spend the day almost entirely indoors.

The personal settings for the Nobi lamp: Light intensity:

  • Can influence the circadian rhythm of Nobi.
  • Light intensity set on 80% or less will safeguard the circadian rhythm.
  • If the brightness is set above 80 to 100%, a great part of the circadian rhythm is lost.
  • Above 100% you lose all the benefits of the circadian rhythm.

The personal settings for the Nobi lamp: Color temperature:

  • Natural light consists of variations in cold white light and warm white light.
  • The difference between the 2 lies in the color temperature.
  • The lower the color temperature is, the more yellow the light is, the warmer the color of the light is.
  • The higher the color temperature is, the whiter the light is, the colder the color of the light is.
  • Cold white light has a lot of blue components in it = slows down/stops the melatonin production (induces sleep) = keeps us alert – active.
  • Warm white light has hardly any blue components in it = no influence on melatonin production = helps to relax – calm down.
