Release Note: Sound Cocoon
What
As of October 21, 2026, Sound Cocoon is available. With Sound Cocoon, the Nobi light plays a soft, steady sound in the resident’s bedroom at night. The sound masks sudden noises, such as doors, voices and care outside the resident’s bedroom. This helps the resident sleep through the night.
You turn on Sound Cocoon for each resident. It is off by default.
Why
Nights in a care home can be noisy. Sudden noises can wake a resident again and again. Broken sleep can lead to less rest, more agitation and more falls.
A steady background sound makes sudden noises stand out less. The noises do not become quieter, but they are less likely to wake the resident. Once it is set up, the light follows the resident’s settings by itself. Care staff do not need to do anything during the night.
What You Can Choose
For each resident, you choose:
- Type: Noise Masking (White Noise), Gentle Sleep (Pink Noise) or Deep Calm (Brown Noise).
- Volume: keep it low. The sound should be just loud enough to mask noise. The Sound Cocoon volume also depends on the volume of the light.
- Schedule: a start time and end time, for example 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The sound never plays outside the schedule.
- When the sound plays: only when the resident is in bed, during the entire period, or as a bedtime wind-down that starts before the resident goes to bed.
With Listen on Nobi light, you can test the sound on the light in the resident’s bedroom before you save.
Good to Know
- Sound Cocoon is available in single-person housing units and in the private rooms of a Jack and Jill housing unit.
- Only the Nobi light in the resident’s bedroom plays the sound.
- Smart monitoring must be on for the resident. Without smart monitoring, the light does not play the sound.
- The light needs recent software. On older software, the sound can only play when the resident is in bed. Update the light to use all options.
- Users with the Manager role can set up Sound Cocoon.
