In this article, you will learn how to set up a Common Area housing unit, for Nobi lights or for Gateways.
5 min task
What
A Common Area is a type of housing unit that isn't linked to a specific resident. It lets you set up Nobi devices in shared spaces, such as hallways or lounges, without assigning them to an individual resident.
A Common Area is set up either for Nobi lights or for Gateways. This is chosen via the Device setup option when the housing unit is created, and it determines which devices can be onboarded in the housing unit.
Why
Residents do not only fall or call for help in their own rooms. A Common Area is how you extend Nobi coverage to the hallways, lounges and dining rooms a resident moves through.
A Nobi light covers the space the way it covers a resident's room: smart monitoring is enabled by default, allowing Nobi to detect falls, resident calls and assistance calls.
Gateways extend coverage into shared spaces by picking up Assistance Call and Wearable Call escalations where there are no Nobi lights. A Gateway doesn't include fall detection, image or video capture, pose analysis, or two-way audio. To learn more, read our discover article on the Nobi Gateway.
