Release Note: Nobi Nurse Call
What
Nobi Nurse Call has been available for a few days. It is a next-generation nurse call system built on the Nobi light, and it is fully connected. Residents have several ways to call for help, care staff can request assistance calls, and when a resident can’t call for help, the Nobi light detects the fall.
A traditional nurse call system only hears a button press. Nobi also detects a fall, without anyone pressing a button. Nobi Nurse Call brings falls, resident calls and assistance calls into one workflow, runs on the Nobi lights your community already trusts, and works with the care management platforms you already use through Nobi integrations.
Why
Nobi Nurse Call is part of the Nobi Care Flow: one connected flow for the whole care team, with four outcomes:
- Safety: someone who needs help gets attention fast. Every escalation, whether someone calls for help or Nobi detects a fall, lands in one application, in a single flow for the whole care team.
- Fast communication: the right care staff member is informed immediately and can talk with the resident through the two-way audio of the Nobi light, for falls and for resident calls from a peripheral paired to the Nobi light.
- Efficiency: care staff only receive escalations for their working areas and see exactly where to go and who claimed the escalation. No more care staff respond than needed.
- Care quality overview: see insights on a specific resident in Resident Insights, or the falls analysis for one community and across communities.
How It All Works Together
Nobi Nurse Call is not one device but a system of call devices and staff tools, all connected through the Nobi light and the Nobi Mobile App.
Residents can start a resident call with the new Wearable Call Button, the Nobi Pull Cord or the Nobi Button. When a resident falls and can’t call for help, the Nobi light detects the fall. In both cases, the escalation arrives in the Nobi Mobile App for the care staff working in that area, showing who needs help and where.
When a care staff member needs extra help with a resident, they press their Nobi Badge to request an assistance call. In common areas without a Nobi light, a Nobi Gateway makes sure Wearable Call Buttons and Badges still work.
Communities that already use another nurse call system can still integrate it with Nobi if they want to. Read more about this in Types of Integrations.
Wearable Call Button
The Wearable Call Button is a new generation of the call button that the resident wears. The Wearable Call Button (Gen 1) is paired to a light in the housing unit. The new Wearable Call Button pairs to the resident instead. This allows the resident to call for help from anywhere within range of a Nobi light or Gateway, not only their housing unit. When the resident presses it, the signal goes through the nearest Nobi light or Gateway in range and a wearable call starts. A wearable call is a type of resident call. Care staff see who pressed it and where.

Assistance Calls with the Nobi Badge
Care staff can now request an assistance call by pressing the button on their Nobi Badge. The nearest Nobi light or Nobi Gateway detects the Badge, and colleagues see right away where support is needed. Care staff can ask for help without leaving the resident, also after they have claimed an escalation.

Nobi Gateway
The Nobi Gateway is a new device for areas where fall detection isn’t needed, such as hallways, lounges and other common areas. It receives the signal from a Wearable Call Button or a Badge and starts the escalation procedure, just like a Nobi light would. A Gateway cannot detect falls, capture images or support two-way audio.
Gateways are added to a common area housing unit set up for Gateway devices. Each Gateway is onboarded into its own area, such as “By the main entrance”, which tells care staff where help is needed. Several Gateways can be added to the same housing unit, which makes them a cost-effective way to extend coverage across the community.

Escalation Flow
All escalation settings now sit under the new Escalation flow section in the navigation. It has three tabs:
- Procedure: decide who is contacted, and in what order, when an escalation starts. The procedure is set for the whole community and can be overruled per department.
- Causes: set the causes care staff can choose as the reason for a fall, resident call or assistance call.
- Preferences: set each escalation type’s sounds for desktop and mobile, how often mobile alerts repeat, who can close it remotely, and automatic closing for falls.

With Nobi Nurse Call, residents get help when it is required, not only when they ask, and care teams respond together in one connected flow.
