Nobi has released new resident privacy and setup improvements, including blurred images and updated consent states.

What
This release adds blurred images, a new privacy option for escalations. Blurred images show care staff more context than a stick figure does, while keeping the resident's privacy safe.
Additionally, smart monitoring consent is displayed more clearly now. It used to be a simple toggle on/off switch under the resident's privacy settings. Now, each resident has a consent state instead. New residents start with the Pending state, which can mean they haven't been asked yet, or their answer just hasn't been updated in Nobi.
Why
Blurred image helps care staff see more during an escalation, while still keeping resident privacy safe. The privacy updates also make it easy for care staff to see which residents are ready to enable smart monitoring, and which which residents still need follow-up to enable smart monitoring and allow smart care features to function.
Blurred Images
There is a new privacy option for escalation images, called blurred images.
With blurred images, care staff can see a blurred picture of the room and the resident during an escalation. This shows more than a stick figure, while still keeping the resident’s privacy safe.
The privacy options for escalation images are now:
- No images: no images are saved or shared.
-
Stick figure: only a stick figure visual representation of the resident's pose is shown over the last image taken while the room was empty. This image only updates the next time the room is empty, so it may not reflect recent changes.
Note: This option is only available to communities that already use it. It is no longer offered to new communities. - Blurred images: a blurred image of the room and resident is shown. This maintains privacy while also providing clear context for the escalation.
- Actual images: fully recognizable images are available.
These options can be set up in the resident’s profile, under the Privacy settings tab.

Updated Consent States for Smart Monitoring
Resident consent for smart monitoring now has three states:
- Pending: no decision has been made yet. Staff may not have asked the resident yet, or the answer has not been saved.
- Consented: the resident has provided informed consent to enable smart monitoring.
- Declined: the resident has said "no" to smart monitoring.
New residents always start with the Pending state. This shows staff that a decision still needs to be recorded.
Smart monitoring only turns on once a resident has provided informed consent. This will show in the privacy settings as Consented. If the state is Pending or Declined, smart monitoring remains off for that resident.
This gives a clear overview of where each resident stands with consent. For example, a resident can appear in Nobi before anyone has asked about consent. The Pending state makes this clear, so it does not look like the resident said no, and is more distinguishable for managers than the on/off toggle switch.

These updates make privacy and consent easier to manage, so residents feel safe and care teams can respond with confidence.
