How to Configure a Jack and Jill Housing Unit

What

A Jack & Jill housing unit is a type of housing unit for two residents who each have a private room and share one or more rooms, usually a bathroom. Each resident has their own private zone, and the rooms they use together make up the shared zone.

The zones decide what Nobi can attribute to a person and what features are available. In a private zone Nobi knows whose space it is, so escalations name the resident and night reports are theirs. In the shared zone Nobi cannot tell the two residents apart, so escalations do not name a resident.

Privacy settings work the same way. Each resident's own privacy settings apply in their private zone. In the shared zone the strictest of the two applies. If one resident does not want images shared, that applies to the shared zone for both residents.

Any Nobi light can be used in Jack and Jill housing units. Fall detection works everywhere in the unit, so long as smart monitoring is enabled for both residents. The only monitoring event available is "in bathroom". Peripherals are paired per zone, so one paired to the wrong zone would report against the wrong resident.

Why

Two residents with their own rooms and a shared bathroom are common in care facilities. A Jack & Jill housing unit covers the whole space with fall detection while keeping each resident's own room private to them.

Configuring the housing unit this way allows Nobi to match how the space is actually used. Each resident keeps their own privacy settings in their private space, shared areas are identified, allowing tailored and accurate smart care.

Detailed steps

1. Select Housing units from the menu.
   
2. Click +Add at the top right of the page to add a housing unit.
   
3. On the Basic info tab, set the housing unit type to Jack & Jill.
   
4. Name the first private zone in the housing unit.
   
5. Name the second private zone in the housing unit.
   
6. Select which department the housing unit belongs to.
   
7. Enter the housing unit's WIFI settings, if different from the department WIFI.
   
8. Click Save.
   
9. Your Jack & Jill housing unit is now created. A green banner will appear at the top of the page to confirm. 
10. Next, add a light to a room. You will be able to choose which zone the room belongs to: private zone 1, private zone 2, or the shared space within the housing unit.
    
11. Now you can link residents to the housing unit.
